THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM

In California, we have the best minds and the strongest work ethic potential in the world. Our children are a wealth we cannot squander. We're a state in crisis, but California has the ability to rise again - stronger and better than ever.

What we're facing:
• Multi-billion dollar deficit for school funding.
• The contention by proponents of decreased funding
to our public schools due to unnecessarily high
    overhead costs and administrative salaries.
• Dropout rates between 20 to 25 percent
    (42% among African American students,
    and 30% among Hispanic student).
• Lack of work ethic is compromising needed skills
    development to sustain California's economic
    infrastructure.
• Teachers, administrators and classified personnel
    are threatened with more layoffs.
• Classroom sizes are getting larger to accommodate
lack of teachers, staff support, school closures, etc.
• Music, Arts, Sports and Career Technical
Programs (woods, auto, metal shops) are being

eliminated by lack of funding or replaced by     mandatory classes required for graduation.
• Some summer schools and after-school programs
are being eliminated for lack of funding.
• Five year suspension of school materials.

It's time to face our challenges head on, adapt to necessary changes, support faculty and administration, and guide the children of California into a future that is solid and unshakeable.

We can keep up with global technology and save money for other programs.

Creativity is an important cog in the wheels of our global economy. The fusion of student potential and creative ideas can fill emerging marketplace niches and help more students graduate, be prepared for the workforce and go on to college.   (details)

We can prepare our children for the global marketplace while contributing to California's economic recovery.

My Schools Toward Epic Economic Recovery (S.T.E.E.R) proposal encompasses the 1994 School to Work Opportunities Act, Work Experience Education program, STEM, and Career Multiple Pathways---but on a state-wide scale.   (details)

We can help potential dropouts have a bright future that contributes to society.

Increased graduation rates will result in greater economic stability for the state of California. Taxpayers cannot continue to shoulder the social repercussions of students that have been denied potential opportunities through alternative efforts. (details)

We must care for the people who make our schools happen.

Our school districts are reeling from massive budget cuts. Teachers and staff are being laid off, supplies are dwindling as class sizes are maxed out, and administrators are faced with cutting more and more programs just to keep the school doors open.   (details)
